Austin Racing

At his fourth start and with two placings already to his name, Smichov started favourite in the 1100 maiden handicap at Bathurst on 16 June. Carrying 59.5kg with the services of Reece Jones, Smichov was encouraged to find a good position early, sitting behind the leader on the fence. The second favourite Spare hit the front at the 100 metre mark, however Smichov hit his straps over the last 50, claiming the race in a photo finish. The 3-year-old son of Prague is raced by his breeder, Jim Critchley and a further seven owners, who were no doubt very happy with the result!

SMICHOV Spoils the Party

At only her second start, SWEET ROSE shot out of the barriers for an easy lead in the 1000 metre dash at Canberra on 8 May. Under the guidance of Louise Day, the daughter of Headwater was cuddled in the lead and in the straight, despite some greenness, showed her talent to fend off the challengers to score by nearly 0.8 of a length. Owned by a large partnership, no doubt there were some happy clients of the Austin stable after that win!

A Sweet Win for SWEET ROSE

Lightly raced 3 year old filly OCEAN EMPRESS, in the capable hands of Alysha Collett, gave a text book performance at Goulburn on 7 May, justifying her price of $3.70 in the 8-horse field. The rangy filly settled second last in the 1100 metre event, and was hooked out in the straight to power down the outside and claim the win at just her third start. Congratulations to owners Daleigh Park Livestock and Brian Austin on what looks to be the first of many wins with this promising filly!

We are excited to share some great news for our business and an important step in elevating our service to our clients.

As part of our continued growth, we have created a new position within the business, that of &ldquo;Racing Manager&rdquo;. This role has been introduced to strengthen our operation and ensure our clients are provided with quality support and information. 
We are pleased to announce Aleesha Austin will be joining Austin Racing as our new &ldquo;Racing Manager&rdquo; commencing as of 1st March 2026.
&nbsp;
In this role Aleesha will handle communications, including with owners and clients, and begin managing media, updates, the website and so on. You will see her at events on behalf of the stable including sales, trials, race day etc. Please feel free to reach out and say hello if you see her around.

This new position will help us improve service, support and communications to all our clients.

Aleesha Austin - Racing Manager

Hot on the heels of Mystic Air winning the first race at Orange on 14 February, Jewel County was not to be outdone. With the services of the same jockey Mathew Cahill, the big mare settled third over the 1300m and using similar tactics as those used on Mystic Air, she was hooked out on straightening and put in some big strides to coast to the front and score by 0.6 lengths. Congrats to her owners, Daleigh Park Livestock and Aleesha Austin!

JEWEL COUNTY Brings up an Orange Double for the Stable

Stepping out for the first time in her career, 3 year old filly Mystic Air jumped well for jockey Mathew Cahill, settling in third position over the 1000m trip at Orange. Once entering the straight, Cahill pulled the filly out wide and she extended for an easy win, clearly enjoying herself as she crossed the line clear by over a length, with her ears pricked. A perfect start to her racing career!

MYSTIC AIR Wins on Debut

Four-year-old gelding ROTHO BRO made it two on the trot with another impressive 1400m win at Orange on 6 January.
Partnering again with Louise Day, Rotho Bro jumped well from a wide gate and was eased back to settle near the back of the field. Louise hooked him out at the 400m mark and while having to come very wide on the turn, put in a devastating sprint to scoop up the field and win by over a length. It was almost a carbon copy of his previous win!
His breeder, Jim Critchley was joined by several of his other owners to cheer him on. Congratulations to all!

ROTHO BRO Again!

Lightly raced 4yo Rotho Bro brought up his second win in just nine starts when taking out a 1400m Class 1 event at Orange on Monday.
Starting equal favourite, Rotho Bro dropped well behind the field on settling and looked out of the picture, only tacking on at about the 500 metre point. He then commenced a huge run on the turn, sweeping down the middle of the track for jockey Louise Day to win by 1 and a half lengths, to the amazement of the race caller!
An exciting win! Congratulations to connections, which include his breeder, Jim Critchley.

ROTHO BRO Stuns the Crowd

While showing plenty of promise in his previous seven starts including city form, it was very pleasing to have the big five year old get the monkey off his back with a well deserved win. Simply Nutbush settled well in third position over the 1400m metre trip at Canberra and once straightening, angled out sharply for Shaun Guymer to get around the heels of the two abreast leaders to go on to beat the favourite by 0.8 lengths going away. Congratulations to his owners the Hobdays!

SIMPLY NUTBUSH Cracks His Maiden

At just her fourth start for the Austin stable, Baycat brought up her second win for new connections, taking out a 1000 metre dash at Orange. Ridden by apprentice Olivia Chambers, she sat third on the fence for most of the trip, and when others behind her made their runs, she held her position and took a gap to fight out the finish with the favourite, Missile Defence, scoring by a nose.
